Arizona has many excellent higher education schools and the Metro Phoenix Area has a whole host of schools to fit every student's taste and learning style. Be to read through Phoenix Arizona Colleges & Universities to see which school could be the right fit for your education.
First of all, there are the three state universities:
Arizona State University, located in Tempe and founded in 1885. Nickname is Sun Devils.
University of Arizona, located in Tucson and founded in 1885. Nickname is Wildcats.
Northern Arizona University, located in Flagstaff and founded in 1899. Nickname is Lumberjacks.
Though both ASU and UA were founded in 1885, UA is considered the state's first university, and has the only medical school in Arizona that grants M.D. degrees. There's a BIG rivalry between the Tempe and Tucson schools. Those of us who are fans or alums of either school are easily riled when national announcers confuse one school for the other during sporting events, which seems to happen quite often ... now that I think about it.
Beyond the four-year institutions, the Phoenix area also is home to the Maricopa County Community College District, which oversees 10 campuses in cities all over the Valley: Chandler-Gilbert, Avondale, Phoenix, Glendale, Mesa, Paradise Valley, and Scottsdale. These schools specialize in university transfer, continuing education, and career and job training programs.
If it's a graduate degree you're after, we've got those, too! A.T. Still University, in Mesa, offers graduate level education in integrated health care, which combines traditional allopathic medicine with more natural approaches. Midwestern University, in Glendale, offers a number of health degrees, from pharmacy to physical therapy to dental medicine to optometry. Thunderbird School of Global Management, in Glendale, recently received its 14th #1 ranking for top International Full-Time MBA from U.S. News & World Report. The Financial Times also awarded Thunderbird the same distinction for 2009. If art is your passion be sure to check out the Art Institute of Phoenix.
So if you're after a degree of virtually any sort, give metro Phoenix a look. Our choices in schools, phenomenal weather, and great housing market make it a win-win-win!
