Treehouses: Not Just for Kids Anymore!

Treehouses: Not Just for Kids Anymore!

I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, some of my favorite places to play with my brothers and sisters during the summer were the tree houses in our backyard and those of our neighbors. They were huge and our private space away from the prying eyes of the grown-ups. If you're like most people, when you hear the term "tree house," you think of a simple hangout for kids.

But did you know that people around the world actually live in tree houses? Lately, more and more adults are turning to the trees for a little respite, too. Many people are finding them a delightful way to obtain some peace and quiet outside the home, or even a unique venue for entertaining guests.

Here are a few cool pics of treehouses around the world. These first two were created by a company called The Living Treehouse.

New Jersey tree house has beautiful mahogany flooring and a

spiral staircase - very cool!

Located near Los Angeles, this tree house is located 35 feet off
the ground and has skylights and electricity - awesome!

I absolutely loved tree houses as a kid.  My friends and I spent many wonderful hours playing in them.  I had no idea that adults around the world were enjoying them so much. :)

Hi Lola.....I just commented on your lovely post just a bit ago!

Aren't these fun!  I saw a show about tree houses and couldn't believe how extravagant they were.  Far cry from what we had as kids.  Nevertheless........we love our tree houses, didn't we!

Anna, these look a bit more elaborate than the one I built my kids about 40 years ago--but I did run electricity to it.

Hi Anna,  this is where I will go for some quiet time this summer.  My in-laws live on Otter Lake near Parry Sound, Ontario.  Here is a photo of the deck on top of the boathouse, where we all hang out before and after a swim.  The second photo is a view from the top of the boathouse.  The ice just went out last week, so it will be awhile before I dip my big toe in the water.  Thanks for reminding me that summer is indeed around the corner

Great pictures.  Living in a tree house...sounds like fun.

Posted by Irene Tron over 10 years ago kids had electricity!  Pretty darn fancy!  We sure didn't.....and I'm sure our parents would have been upset had they known we used candles.  Scary thought, isn't it?

Jenny.........absolutely gorgeous photos.  How relaxing is that!  I grew up on  a lake in MN so I know what a wonderful experience that is....especially when it was finally time to put the boat dock out.  Summer is almost there for you! would be fun, I think??

Cool Blog. I would love to leave in a tree house!  It might be a little scary during a storm. For the most part it would be really relaxing.
