Friday Inspiration - If You Think You Can, You Can!

Friday Inspiration - If You Think You Can, You Can!

This morning while out hiking in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve I noticed a very unusual hiking duo.  I was just about to cross over the main path to head back to my home. I just happened to look up the hill and was amazed by what I saw. I quickly took out my phone and adjusted the camera to try to catch a shot.

There they were - a seemingly very odd couple hiking - one young lady and one older lady.  I have been hiking this mountain preserve for well over 25 years and not once have I seen a much, much older person hiking UP the hill.  I was stunned to see the older lady slowly making her way up the first leg of the 1 1/2 mile hike up to the top. I don't know how far she would make it up the hill but trust me, getting as far as she got seemed like a miracle to me.

Friday Inspiration - If you think you can, you can!

Seeing this lady attempting to hike up the hill slowly, very slowly got me to stop my short spurt of mumbling about how my feet hurt this morning. Waa Waa Waa. Enough already!  Some days they hurt and other days they're fine. But regardless, I go hiking either way because I love hiking and being outside. And the less I think about it the better it gets.  Sounds familiar - doesn't it!!

Here she is - still going up the hill!

Friday Inspiration - If you think you can, you can!

I was able to catch a couple of quick shots of the hiking duo between the trees from my lower path. She looked determined to keep going up the hill! I kind of wish I had been on my way up the hill rather than at the end of my hike.  I would have loved to experience seeing this very cool & inspiring lady get up the hill as far as she possibly could make it. And wouldn't I be surprised if she made it to the top. Miracles do happen every day!

Anna doing begins with truly believing you can do it.  Once you believe that anything is possible, and this woman is living proof of that.

Your post reminds me of a 10-K run I participated in about 35 years ago. I was running uphill and thought I was going to poop out. Suddenly, I hear a man yelling to all of us -encouraging us to keep going and not give up.

The man passes me . . . he has no feet. His legs end in these strange pogo-stick like shoes and he's the one telling us to keep going!

I read about him in the paper the next day - he had been born without feet and decided to do all the things in life that he "shouldn't" have been able to do.

Same type of inspiration as your older hiker.

That's very inspiring.  My 95 year old dad still gets out for a short walk almost every day.  I hope I can be so lucky.

A ride on an all-terrain vehicle would have gotten her to the top faster. But she wasn't seeking efficiency.

Will that be us in 40 years?  What an inspiring story.  Nothing is going to stop this lady.  She does what she wants!

Gosh, I wish you'd have asked if you could use my picture hiking up that mountain, Anna - I would have slung my cane out of the shot!

Honestly, sometimes I think I'm moving at that pace too but, determination inspires us to push for more...and if we push, we accomplish!

Oh, I love everything about this post, Anna!  I even love that the younger woman is so patient with the elderly woman. Everyone is not cut from that cloth and I admire people who care for our elderly.

Hi Anna, now we have to wonder about the motivation of the senior lady for the climb. Maybe to visit a special place from her youth?

I'm inspired seeing such things too! I just adore people who keep moving on even no one expects them to....

I hope she made it as well. It is inspiring to see people accomplishing tasks that, if not seen as impossible, are seen as unlikely for those people to accomplish. Thank you for sharing.
