If you live in Phoenix it's a must to know and understand how to handle snake encounters. I hike frequently and over the years have run into these sometimes very scary dudes - very scary!

Mark Hindle - Rattlesnake Doc!

Mark Hindle works in the ER of a local Phoenix hospital.  The Rattlesnake Doc graciously spends his off time sharing his knowledge and expertise  about snakes with his fellow Phoenicians. This guy is amazing! I first saw his presentation last spring and I was shocked on what I didn't know about snake behavior. The room was packed with kids from 5 to 100 and everyone was on high alert listening to the Rattlesnake Doc and watching the snakes hissssss and move around the cage - very cool!

Don't be afraid to come to his presentation! The snakes are contained in walled-in structure and the Rattlesnake Doc knows how to handle the snakes!

You will learn so much about snakes! And  you will appreciate the Rattlesnake Doc's presentation so SO much!  Be prepared to learn about snake encounters, snake recognition, snake myths as well as a bit about desert conservation.

For 8 years I worked at a software development company that was in a remote area of the Sierra Nevada foothills.  Rattlesnakes outnumbered us.  I remember one in particular that we named, "Fluffy."  We didn't interact much!

I am not a very big fan of snakes, but my oldest daughter has two. I have learned to love them after all these years. This snake Doctor is a very generous man for using his own free time to educate others!

Anna- I feel the same way about snakes that Barbara Todaro feels about gators. But I definitely would attend just to learn about them. Of course, I'd be standing as far away from them as I could.

I had all I could stomach when I tangled with a copperhead in my kitchen a couple weeks ago. I'll leave the rattlers to you Anna

Reading this the first thing that came to my mind was Debe Maxwell, CRS recent experience with a snake in her home.  And I see her comment above ...

This is an event I would most definitely attend.

We've seen these types of programs at a museum in Central Oregon - rattlesnake country. I find them very fascinating - and you're right, it's smart to know what to do if you run into one hiking...

Anna sounds like an interesting presentation, but the picture is about as close as I want to get to a rattlesnake .... LOL
