Honoring All Service People
It's been a great day honoring service people including my husband Gary 'Banana' Houghtaling who served in the Air Force for 8 years. I asked him if he liked it when people say to him, 'Thank you for your service". And his immediate response was - absolutely. All the veterans we ran across while volunteering at a local community center today seemed to feel the same way as Gary. It was very heart warming to hear their stories. And every single vet said almost the same thing to me as Gary did - thank you for listening and being kind. Seriously that is the least we can do to honor them, isn't it? It doesn't take much to honor our awesome service people and it is something I'll be doing a lot more of all year long.
Here is my Dad & Mom's wedding picture in World War 2. They were married on December 8, 1944. He was a Lieutenant in the Army stationed at that time out of New York. He was an amazing man! When I looked at this photo today it was striking how my nephew looks just like him now.
My step son Paul is also an Army Veteran and he's now serving in the Air Force Reserve. We are very proud of him! He looks so young in this picture! He's married with 4 children under the age of 10 - one busy guy!
To all our veterans - Thank you for your service! You are appreciated!
PS Gary couldn't find a picture of himself in uniform! Otherwise I would have shared one of him too! Maybe he's just holding out....what do you think!!
