Winter Wonderland in Phoenix - Snow!

Winter Wonderland in Phoenix - Snow!

Snow in Phoenix? Last Saturday while hiking in the preserve behind our home we were shocked to look up and see snow on the mountains.  Was it a mirage?  Was it just clouds?  Nope. It was snow!  And mind you we've been hiking there for over 30 years and have never seen snow!  Everyone on the trail was excited about the snow as they've never seen snow on those hills either! The winter visitors out hiking were surprised and asked us a lot of questions about winter weather here in Phoenix, which was fun!

Every direction we turned there was snow on all the mountains around Phoenix North Valley. I'm sure everybody took a lot of pictures to capture the beauty of the snow! I know because we sure took a lot of photos! Quite often something out of the blue pops up in nature (like the snow on Saturday) and makes us keenly aware of the beauty surrounding us in our neighborhood.   We are very thankful to call Moon Valley in North Phoenix home!

HI Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 - I was checking the local TV stations and they showed snow at the Four Season's hotel in Scottsdale.  Last night I heard that well over 50% of the state had snow.  Records everywhere.

It's been an unusual winter in the Phoenix area.  It was sure colder than normal when I was there.

Hello Anna - while I didn't see it there were reports of "snowfall" in our area. I assume it was hail which we have experienced from time to time(not often) but the nearby mountains(many out-of-state visitors laugh when they hear the words mountain used) have snowcaps that are particulartly pleasning on a clear winter day.

Anna,

When I was in Los Angeles last week, we saw the same scenery, and closer to us near Ojai there is plenty of snow on the peaks of the Los Padres National Forest.  What lovely pictures you shared with us.  A

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE® great to see your smiling face!  I talked to a fellow hiker this morning on the trail and he said North Scottsdale had 6 inches on the ground - crazy!!  All the snow is gone today and thankfully we're back into the low 70's - yea!

It's been a wild year for CA too Ron and Alexandra Seigel . You all got the rain first and then it rained for 3 1/2 days here which is such a rare occurence. I'm happy it's back in the low 70's today, snow is gone on the hills - which I missed as it was such a pretty site!

Anna, we had the coldest Winter that I can recall in 22 years, the other night it was 39 degrees at some point ... we have not seen many '70 degree days during this season:)Endre

Endre Barath, Jr. it's been the same here - way colder than normal. Many nights in the high 20's, low 30's. Some of our plants froze on top and I can't wait until the gardener can clean it up and get it blooming again. And it's time to buy some pretty containers of flowers too!  No more winter!!

Those are beautiful photos, would have expected more snow over the winter months on those mountains, so I learnt something today.

What a beautiful surprise, Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886.  Brian England had a very recent post of attending a wedding in Sedona and the snow factor.  Beautiful photos...  Also, I smiled when you write about hiking in your backyards...  Brian often writes about hiking in East Valley, Az. also.  Yes, I do agree with you that you have a wonderful place to call home.

Hi there Anna, what a lovely sight. The weather this winter has been so weird. I'm guessing this is all part of our climate changes going on...makes me wonder if it's the new normal.  At any rate, gorgeous photo of the mountain tops frosted in white icing.
